Maria’s Rescue
Maria had been living in fear for months, trapped in a cycle of abuse and manipulation by a man who had promised her safety and a better life. Isolated from her family and stripped of her documents, she was moved across state lines and threatened daily. One afternoon, at a bus station restroom, Maria saw something she hadn’t seen in a long time—a way out. On the wall was a small box labeled “Kidnapped? In Danger? Take a free GPS tracker.” With no phone, no money, and no idea where she was, Maria quietly took the tracker and slipped it into her pocket.
What happened next changed her life. The tracker alerted GIG’s monitoring station, and within minutes, law enforcement was en route. Because of the GPS Rescue Box, officers located Maria and removed her from danger before she was moved again. She was connected to a victim advocate, given emergency shelter, and has since begun rebuilding her life with the support of trusted organizations.
Today, Maria says, “That little tracker saved me. I didn’t think anyone could find me, let alone help me. But someone cared enough to put that box there—and because of that, I’m free.”
